Awaken the mother mind within every one of you, human beings. Our people believe that every human being, male or female, has two minds – the mother mind and the warrior mind. The warrior mind looks at things logically, and says, ‘Two plus two is four.’ But the mother mind says nothing but says nothing of that kind.
I don’t know how to explain the mother mind. It doesn’t think in a linear way like warriors; the mother mind thinks sideways, upwards, and downwards. We must awaken the mother mind within us. We must feel what is going on in the world. We mustn’t just listen to newspapers; we must feel for ourselves. Women, it is said by our Zulu people that women think with their pelvic area, where children grow and are born. We must think that way.
No longer should I look at a tree as just a tree, but I must see a living entity, like me, in that thing. No longer should I look at a stone, but see the future lying dormant in that stone. What minerals are there?
We must think like grandmothers that were born before us.
